Gamay
Wine
Eldridge Estate Gamay is a single vineyard wine grown in an estate vineyard at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula.
Vigneron David Lloyd has forged a reputation for Gamay in Australia. His is one of the Mornington Peninsula's cult wines.
The grapes are destemmed, but not crushed, for a pre-ferment soaking. Wild fermentation begins spontaneously. The ferment lasts 10 days with plunging three times a day.
The wine is pressed to French oak for maturation and malolactic fermentation. Only a limited quantity is made each year.
Deep red, Eldridge Estate Gamay has supple texture and red fruit flavours. The tannin is down deep, the finish long and pure. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
